Essay
Corum is a Swiss watchmaking company founded in 1955 by René Bannwart. Originally starting his watchmaking career at Patek Philippe in 1933, then moving to OMEGA in 1944, Bannwart finally left the company to establish his own brand along with his uncle Gaston Ries.
René named his company "Corum", which is a simplification of the Latin word Quorum, a word referring to the minimum number of people required to hold discussions and make decisions in a deliberative assembly. The logo follows a similar ingenious origin, with a key pointing toward the sky, symbolising riddles, mystery, innovation, and watchmaking precision.
Soon after it's establishment, Corum introducted an instant best-seller $20 gold coin watch which then became the company's signature pieces. Corum is also known for its "World Premiers" as each year it has produced a limited number of limited edition pieces.
