Essay
Established in 1848 in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, by Louis Brandt, La Generale Watch Co. served as the precursor to Omega. Louis Brandt initially crafted precision pocket watches by assembling components provided by local craftsmen.
The 491 calibre was among the earliest non-bumper automatics. This belonged to Omega's second series of in-house automatic movements, manufactured between 1955 and 1960, keeping a power reserve of up to 46 hours.
